parting (2002)

Parting was my final degree show. I had found my shadow image in the figure made for the Derivation exhibition, but hadn’t exhausted the scenarios in which it was to appear.

In this exhibition I created a kind of ‘The Last Judgement,’ in which the soft felt statue was surrounded by six floating concrete cubes as a kind of court, a sunrise, and six square spaces through which the raw sheep hide was protruding with remnants of the natural world of hay and even live spiders, the crux of which was the juxtaposition of materials, perspectives and weight, of either heavy looking but floating objects, or light looking but heavy objects.
